About Brett BPsychSc(Hons), MPsych (Counselling)
My way of working with and understanding your experiences is largely influenced by psychodynamic frameworks. This means that as I hear your story I hold in mind how our relationships with others, both past and present, can shape how we experience life in unexpected ways; that emotional and inner experiences can be a valuable source of understanding; and that healing through psychotherapy requires a kind of relationship that allows a person to feel at ease, unburdened, and grow.
Background and Training
I am an experienced Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist. Before working in private practice, I worked for over 10 years across a broad range of services including several youth mental health services, a national crisis and parenting support helpline, as well as university and drug and alcohol counselling services.
I have completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science with First Class Honours and a Master of Psychology (in the field of Counselling Psychology) with Distinction at the University of Queensland. I invest in ongoing supervision and training each year to enhance my psychotherapy practice and maintain my ethical and professional standards. I am currently undertaking postgraduate training at the Institute for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ICAPP).
